Composing with Photoshop – “Compositing”
Monday 4/27/2020, Wednesday 4/29/2020 and Friday 5/1/2020 9:30 am – 12:30pm(ish)
Compositing is the combining of visual elements from separate sources into single images, often to create the illusion that all those elements are parts of the same scene.
This is a three-day class that will introduce you to the basics of Photoshop and how to use the photo editing software as a tool to build compositions for paintings and drawings. Robert will share his thought process when he’s out in the field capturing photographic reference, demonstrate how to use Photoshop and cover basic compositional elements and principles.
Please note this is not a class on composition or an in-depth tutorial on how to use Photoshop. It is an introduction to using Photoshop as a tool to compose more interesting and compelling images for your paintings and drawings.
Photoshop is a powerful tool that many artists, including Robert, use to compose their artwork. Photoshop allows you to adjust the size, orientation, color and, most importantly, the placement of the objects within your chosen picture plane. If you have ever wanted to use Photoshop to compose a painting but don’t know how to separate a subject from its background so that you can place it in another background and you want to learn how, then this is the class for you.
Adobe's "Photography Package" is currently only $9.99 a month, this is a subscription plan that you can end at any time, as well resubscribe.
- A computer with Photoshop installed – You must have the program installed on your computer and make sure that it works properly. It is highly advised for you to “play” around with the program before attending the class.
- Robert will be using Photoshop 2020 on a PC, you may use other versions of this program or even Photoshop Elements but please keep in mind that the interface is not always the same. Please note that Robert is not familiar with the Mac interface at all and finds Macs difficult to work with.
- You are going to need TWO DEVICES or TWO SCREENS for this class. One to see the class/instruction and the other for you to use your computer and the Photoshop program. A tablet for the class may work for you although the screen may be small. If you have a newer computer more than likely it will have an HDMI video output that you can use to connect to any newer TV that has an HDMI input.
At this time Robert is offering online classes one class and one week at time. Simply add the class to your cart and complete the payment process. An email will be sent to you the morning of the class with the invitation link to the Zoom meeting. Click on the link and join your class at the start time.
Your video and audio is turned off when starting the meeting/class. When you are ready, you can turn on your video so we can all see you; you may also select to not share your video. Student audio will be kept off during the entire class.
