Join wildlife artist Robert Louis Caldwell as he travels back to Africa on a 10 day safari in October 2019, this time to beautiful Kenya. Robert fell in love with Africa the moment he stepped off the plane in 2012 and once again is inviting a group of friends to join on his next adventure.
Under the limitless blue sky of East Africa lives a wild animal population that is staggering in sheer numbers and variety. Whether a novice traveler or world explorer, nothing stimulates thesenses and ignites the imagination with the same intensity as a safari to Africa.
On safari in Kenya you will explore Samburu Game Reserve, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Lake Elmentaita, Lake Nakuru National Park and the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. While traveling in such diverse habitats, you experience unparalled wildlife viewing opportunities. You will stay in deluxe tented camps and lodges and be accompanied by highly skilled safari guides.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Nairobi
Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by Safari Legacy and transferred to your hotel for check in. Overnight Ole Sereni Hotel –Superior Room
Day 2 - Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve
Morning drive via Nanyuki, crossing the equator to Samburu Game Reserve. Situated alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River, there is plenty to attract wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains. The reserve is rich in wildlife with an abundance of rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the Beisa oryx (also referred to as Samburu Special Five). The reserve is also home to elephants and large predators such as the lion, leopard and cheetah. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area. Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Overnight Ashnil Samburu Tented Camp (BLD)
Day 3 - Samburu Game Reserve
Full day in Samburu Game Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. Samburu is inhabited by a wide variety of animals, more so the rare species such as the long- necked gerenuk, gravy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and Beisa Oryx. Other animals include leopard, lion, elephant, crocodile and hippo which can be seen swimming in the Ewaso Nyiro River. Overnight Ashnil Samburu Tented Camp (BLD)
Day 4 - Samburu – Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast enjoy a game drive en-route to Ol Pajeta Conservancy, a 90,000 acre private wildlife conservancy. Ol Pejeta is situated on the equator, in Kenya’s Laikipia District, between the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts an astounding variety of animals, including the “Big Five” (endangered black rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion), Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetah and chimpanzee.

Day 5 - Ol Pejeta Conservancy & Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Today enjoy a full day exploring the Ol Pejeta Conservancy with morning and afternoon game drives and a visit to the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary and the Rhino sanctuary. Overnight Sweetwaters Tented Camp (BLD)
Day 6 - Ol Pejeta - Lake Elmentaita
Morning drive to Lake Elmentaita, a soda lake, on the eastern side of East Africa's Great Rift Valley, about 120 km northwest of Nairobi, Kenya. In the south-to-north sequence of Rift Valley lakes, Elmenteita is located between Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru. At the southern end of the lake lie the "Kekopey" hot springs. The reed beds nearby are fishing grounds for Night Herons and Pelicans. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the Lake Elementaita Luxury Camp (BLD)
Day 7 - Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart in the morning and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, described by Roger Tory Peterson as the greatest ornithological spectacle in the world. Full day exploring Lake Nakuru National Park with picnic lunch. Overnight Lake Elementaita Luxury Camp (BLD)
Day 8 – Lake Elementaita / Maasai Mara Game Reserve
This morning you will travel along the Rift Valley and ascend its western rim into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Known as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest’s migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals between July and October. There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 birds species recorded on the reserve. Afternoon game drive. Overnight Ashnil Mara Tented Camp (BLD)
Day 9 - MaAsai Mara Game Reserve
Full day with morning and afternoon game drives in the Maasai Mara. Overnight Ashnil Mara Tented Camp (BLD)
Day 10 - Maasai Mara Game Reserve / Nairobi
After breakfast, drive back to Nairobi. (5 hour drive. An optional flight is available for an additional cost of $260 per person) Enjoy a farewell lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant. After lunch, enjoy dayrooms at the Ole Sereni Hotel until your late afternoon transfer to the airport for your departing flights. (BL)

Itinerary
Day 1 – Serengeti / Kigali, Rwanda
Last day of Tanzania. Enjoy a morning game drive. After lunch at your tented camp, transfer to the airstrip for your afternoon Coastal Air flight to Kigali Rwanda. With a stop in Mwanza for security clearance, you should arrive into Kigali around 5:30 pm. Met on arrival in Kigali by Safari Legacy staff and transferred to Kigali Serena Hotel for dinner and overnight. (BLD)
Day 2 – Kigali, Rwanda
Morning sightseeing excursion of Kigali including a visit to the Genocide Museum. Lunch at Safari Bite restaurant followed by afternoon drive to Kinigi arriving late afternoon. Dinner and overnight Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. (BLD)
Day 3 - Volcano National Park/ 1st Gorilla Trek
After an early breakfast we begin our first gorilla trek. Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcano National Park is one of the most exciting experiences in all Africa. Over the next two days you will trek through the Virunga Mountains in search of the mountain gorilla. The gorilla trek can take on average, about 2 hours each way walking/trekking over wet, slippery and uneven terrain. There are rangers and trekking guides who are available to assist at all times. Day 4 – Volcano National Park/ 2nd Gorilla Trek / Kigal / Depart
After an early breakfast depart for our last gorilla trek. After an hour with these great primates we return to Mountain Lodge for lunch. Afterwards, drive to Kigali for a short use of dayrooms provided at the Kigali Serena Hotel before transferring to the airport for our evening flights. (BL)
